Education and Early Career
Sergio attended the “Arrigo Boito” Conservatory of Music in Parma, Italy, near his hometown of Florence. He graduated summa cum laude from Arrigo Boito while also finishing a degree in Philosophy and Aesthetics at the University of Florence. He also spent considerable time studying with Joaquin Achucarro at the Chigiana Academy and at SMU in Dallas, TX. He won the Diploma of Merit while at Chigiana. Additional teachers, master class instructors, and mentors include Murray Perahia, Philippe Cassard, Bruno Canino, Christopher Elton, and more.
Performing Career & Chamber Music Pursuits
His repertoire includes concertos by Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Schumann, Beethoven, Brahms, Ravel, Grieg, Chopin, and Shostakovich, and he has performed these works with some of the world’s premiere orchestras and conductors. In addition to traditional piano literature, Sergio performs contemporary works with the ContempoArtEnsemble.
In chamber settings, Sergio De Simone has performed with violinist Violeta Smailovic, flutist Francesco Loi, cellist Yevgeniy Xaviereff, and several wind and piano ensembles.
Career in Education
Prior to joining the piano faculty at Trinity Laban, Sergio served as a professor at the Music School of Sesto Fiorentino, and he currently holds appointments at the Music School of Sesto Fiorentino and the “Gesualdo da Venosa” Conservatory in Potenza when outside of his duties in London. He has also been a professor at the “Santa Cecilia” Conservatory in Rome and the G.B. Martini Conservatory in Bologna.
